Being an art teacher, I love to paint and I love being able to represent myself through various artistic mediums. In this self-portrait I chose to grid the portrait into 42 different blocks. The number 42 isn’t symbolic in itself, but the blocks are. They represent the many facets of my mind and the way I take on the world. Some are colorful, some are textured, and some are black and white. Color represents my life, I love to be a dreamer and lose myself in the beauty of the everyday world, but the black and white squares represent reality. Dealing with daily struggles and the mundane is black and white in my eyes, not impressive, but necessary. The textured squares give the artwork excitement and are meant to represent not only the exciting times in life, but also the rough patches in life that make us stronger. All the squares are unique in their own way, but as a whole they create a picture of myself, just the way that all the pieces of my life come together to create me.
